Tea cosy

Hey Folks,

The last few weeks I have kind of left my knitting to one side, which is very unlike me. But this week I picked it up and carried on with the tea cosy that I was asked to knit for my grandmas friend. I went for a really chunky look as I wanted to do it quickly and also because I think a tea cosy looks better chunky and in your face :)

I found this website, and decided to use their design with a few alterations to adjust to size. Here are some pics of my tea cosy journey...

I even added a couple of pom poms to the top! I think I did a pretty good job, and the tea will definitely be kept warm!

Happy knitting...

Snapshot of my week...

Ahh I have been a busy bee this last week, lots of things to do...

I made a German friendship cake called Herman.

Was taken for dinner at a very nice oriental restaurant in Birmingham, and drinks too...

Was given some of my most favourite flowers by my favourite man.

I was also taken on a day trip to London to see a play, and while there we visited the Hummingbird bakery, stocked up on goods and went and sat in Hyde Park in front of a lovely Magnolia tree and scoffed them all down!

What an excellent week :) x

How Come You Never Go There?

Guest Post...
Tim from Something for the CV has this week found my music to knit to and wanted to share with you all why he likes this song...

Feist - How come you never go there?

This song was the first single from Lesley Feist’s long-awaited fourth album, Metals. I loved her third album, The Reminder, which had a number of lovely pop-folk songs, including the hits ‘1234’ and ‘I Feel It All’.

This song is beautifully chilled, if featuring lyrics that are somewhat melancholy, with a slow, jazzy feel to its timing and backing vocal refrain. As always, Feist’s vocals are soft and soothing and perfect for something to enjoy while crafting. Enjoy.

Ooooooh... it is a good'en isn't it?!

Things I have eyes for this week

This week I have been feeling a 50s peach and mint vibe. I found this beautiful dress and cute little socks. This perfume is my most favorite but a little out of my price range... but I have had a hard time recently so I am going to treat myself I think... :) The eyeshadow is really cute, I love this brand, to be honest it's one of the only ones I can wear due to sensitive skin but they really produce some great stuff! And the book... well its just what it says on the tin :)

Pinwheel

The Pinwheel is something that reminds me of my childhood. Summers playing in the garden, or standing on a windy beach. So when I found this picture the other day I really wanted to make myself a pinwheel.
I decided to make myself a cute little brooch/hairclip/fixing for a bag or lets face it, anything!
Start by cutting out a square of felt to the size that you want your pinwheel to be. I actually cut out 2 squares, one of felt and the other a cute vintage fabric.
I then took the fabric and glued it onto the top of the felt, making sure all the edges match up and obviously the pattern is facing upwards. (Durrr)
Then taking the square I cut into the centre from each corner, obviously not dead centre, on this i left a 5mm gap between each cut. Then hook up some thread onto a needle.
Then take the left of each cut and fold over right into the centre and sew together. Make sure the corners are stacked on top of each other not next to each other.
Then using a cute button sew to cover up the corners in the centre of the pinwheel. I picked a cute mint green fabric covered button for this pinwheel.
I then stitched a brooch fixing or even a safety pin to the back and look, tis a brooch!
The great thing about these is that they literally take about 2 minutes to make, and they can be used on pretty much anything. They would make a really cute fascinator for your hair! Also they could be made in as many different colour ways as possible. I am going to be making a lot of these :)

Crochet Bag

While on my many mooches through the Internet looking for inspiration and ideas I found a beautiful bag that I just HAD to make!
I thought it would make a great every day bag, I loved everything, the colours, the delicateness of the crochet, yet it looks stable and like it could be chucked about a bit. (I am quite vicious with my bags) So off I went to purchase my yarn. I tried to get as close as I could to the actual one here, although it seems brown isn't easy to find at certain times of the year!
I made 12 Light brown squares of a similar design to the one above and 12 dark brown squares and then crocheted them together and then also around the top edge. Part way through I decided to make it more of a clutch bag (mostly because it turned out smaller than I had planned, I still cant judge sizes easily), so I purchased some vintage buttons and added them to the top and this is what I have!

Its a really cute clutch and I have had a lot of comments on it, I think that to make it last longer I am going to be lining it with the beautiful rose fabric that I purchased which is in the picture. That way it wont stretch and go misshapen. I think I may even make some more in different colours, and a larger one so I can use it for my original idea.
I hope this brings you some creative inspiration :)

Also I have just in the past couple of weeks joined Pinterest. Id love for you to share your inspirational ideas with me too :)

Don't Look Back

She & Him are a band that I really like. Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward are a great duo who have covered many a song but also have their own. I only found this video today while wandering the great isles of the YouTube library but I love it, the song has such a retro feel to it and the video just adds loads to that! She & Him are definitely a band to look up, their Christmas album was great! Gave a really traditional feel to my Christmas this year. Look them up, She & Him you wont regret it!

Things I have eyes for this week

Well this has been a bit of a busy week for me with work, but I still have had time to find things that I have eyes for :)

I love being paid, but I am terrible with money because all I want to do is go out and spend it! This dress I pass in a window every morning and evening on my way too and from work and it's a good job the shop isn't open as I would deffinatly have it by now! These shoes are so cute, I had some just like it when I was little and I am sooooo going to go and get some tomorrow.. :)  The bag is just a really cute bag, it comes in a few of the spring 50's ice cream colours and its just a nice size/shape/everything! The mixer I have wanted for a very long time, but it costs as much as a holiday in my eyes and therefore it's something I just have to want for now. The Mixing bowl is also something I have always wanted, Mason Cash has been around for years and I remember my granny having one when I was little, fond memories of her homemade cookies being made in that bowl, but I like the modern touch on the cream rather than the standard brown colour :)
Hope you like my likes x

Foxy

This week I have been mostly working, but I had a little time to make a nice little gift for a friend whos baby is coming very soon.

To be honest I did pinch the idea off a toy I found on Etsy, but I thought the idea was really cute, and she likes to call him the little Fox man, so he needed a fox! Lets hope the little fox man likes his fox x
